As disciples, we have been called to serve God. One of the ways we serve Him is by sharing our faith with others. As we share our faith and trust the Holy Spirit to change hearts, the next step is assimilating those individuals into the church. It is important for new believers to become integrated into the church body so they might grow and become disciples themselves. It is my opinion that the best venue for this growth to occur is in Sunday school. In fact, Thom Rainer sites “Christians who immediately become active in Sunday school were five times more likely to remain in the church five years later than those who were active in worship services alone.” (Rainer, Thom: Surprising Insights from the Unchurched, page 118). Assuming we have served, shared our faith and assimilated new believers into our church, we will have plenty of reasons to rejoice. That is SOAR in a nutshell!
This year we will structure SOAR a bit differently, as we will divide our church into two teams: (1) the Paul Team and (2) the Barnabas Team. Both of these teams will minister to our widows, shutins and those in the hospital. Encouragement is such a key component of being a part of the local church (Hebrews 10:23-25). Barnabas was known for being an encourager and this is why the Barnabas team will focus on encouraging our members. Paul was known for his missions work and evangelistic efforts. Therefore, our Paul team will focus some of their attention toward inactive members, AWANA families and those individuals who have recently visited our church. The Paul team will also make visits to our widows, shut-ins and hospital patients.
These two teams will meet
once each month. The Paul team will meet on the 2nd Tuesday and the Barnabas
team will meet on the 4th Tuesday. Please sign up today!!! I do hope many
in our church will get involved in SOAR. It is my prayer that as we avail
ourselves to Him, God will use this time to shape us into becoming those “fishers
of men” Jesus was always talking about. Through your willingness to
participate with God, He will use you in fulfilling His purpose on earth…gaining
worshippers for His kingdom!
Each SOAR night will begin sharply at 6:45 pm with refreshments and testimony. You don't want to miss it.
